Short-notice cover

Business insurance at short notice

Yes — when there is a real deadline, we can often place cover fast. A contract starting Monday, a tender award, a client or venue that needs a certificate, an event date, a lease completing: tell us the date and what you need, and we will tell you plainly what is achievable and by when.

In short

Insurance does not have to take weeks. For a straightforward risk with the information ready and an insurer with appetite, terms can often be back in a day or two and cover bound shortly after — with a certificate issued for whoever needs to see it. Some risks take longer: US jurisdiction, heavy or non-standard trades, and anything needing a survey or detailed underwriting. The honest answer depends on the risk and how complete your information is, and we will give it to you straight rather than promise a date we cannot hit. We do not publish premiums, but moving quickly does not have to mean paying over the odds.

When you need cover fast

Short-notice cover is usually driven by a real, dated trigger. The common ones:

The triggerWhat it needs
A contract or lease starting on a set dateCover incepting before you sign or move in, at the limits the contract specifies
A tender award or frameworkEvidence of cover to the required limits — see insurance requirements for tenders
A client or venue requirementA policy and a certificate, sometimes naming them as an additional party
An event, exhibition or trip on fixed datesCover in force before the date, sometimes with US or overseas jurisdiction
A policy lapsing or an insurer withdrawingNew cover in place before the old one ends, with no gap
A sale or completionCover from completion, and sometimes run-off on what came before

If your deadline is one of these, the useful thing is to start now — the earlier we go to market, the more room there is to place it properly rather than grab the first thing available.

What makes a fast placement possible

Whether a placement can be turned around quickly comes down to a few things, and being straight about them saves everyone time:

We will tell you at the outset whether your deadline is realistic and, if it is tight, what would have to happen to hit it.

How we move quickly

When the clock matters, the process is the same as always — just run at pace:

What we need to move today

To move today, the more of this you can send by return, the faster we go:

Why place it through Apex

Apex Insurance Brokers is an independent commercial insurance broker established in 2009 and based in Bristol, owned entirely by its directors and directly authorised by the FCA since 2016. We are not tied to any single insurer, we do not run our own policy or underwriting, and we have no placement quotas. We have access to over 30 markets, including Lloyd’s syndicates via wholesale, and every client has a named broker — the same person from first call to bind — who picks up the phone when a deadline is tight and a risk needs moving today.

Frequently asked

Can you really bind cover in a couple of days?

Often, yes — for a straightforward risk with the information ready and an insurer with appetite, terms can be back quickly and cover bound shortly after. It is not a certainty for every risk, and we will tell you at the start whether your deadline is realistic rather than promise a date we cannot hit.

Can you issue a certificate for my client or a venue quickly?

Yes — once cover is bound we can issue a certificate of insurance, and where a client or venue needs to be named as an additional party we match the wording they have given us.

What slows a fast placement down?

Missing information is the usual culprit, followed by risks that need a specialist market — US jurisdiction, non-standard or high-hazard trades, or anything requiring a survey. Sending complete details up front removes most of the delay.

Can you arrange annual cover at short notice, not just short-term?

Yes. An annual policy is often as quick to place as a short-term one and covers you beyond the immediate deadline, so it is frequently the more sensible option even when the trigger is a single date.

Up against a deadline?

Tell us the date, what you do and any requirement you have been given, and we’ll tell you plainly what we can place and by when — then go to market today. Or call 0117 325 0027.
