What is group personal accident insurance?

It’s a policy an organisation takes out to pay set benefits if a covered person is injured in an accident — a lump sum for death or permanent disability, and usually a weekly benefit if they can’t work for a time. It pays regardless of who was at fault and is separate from employers’ liability.

How is it different from employers’ liability?

Employers’ liability responds when the employer is legally liable for an injury. Group personal accident pays agreed benefits whether or not anyone was at fault, so it fills the gap where no-one is liable — which is why employers, clubs and charities use it alongside EL.

Can you cover a sports team or a charity’s volunteers?

Yes. Group PA is commonly arranged for sports teams (professional, semi-professional and amateur), and for charities and NGOs covering staff and volunteers, including event and tournament cover.
