Insurance for nail technicians and nail bars

Cover built for nail professionals — salon-based, home-based or mobile. Acrylics, gels, BIAB and the products behind them carry a real allergy and reaction risk, and that's exactly where a standard policy tends to fall short.

Apex is an independent Bristol broker, FCA-authorised (FRN 724952), with 30+ commercial insurer markets.

In short: a nail policy centres on treatment and product liability — the allergic reactions and chemical sensitivities that acrylics and gels can cause — plus employers' liability if you have staff, and cover for your lamps, drills and stock. We cover salon, home and mobile setups.

Nail technician insurance — common questions

Am I covered if a client has an allergic reaction to gel or acrylic?

Yes — that's exactly what treatment and product liability are for, and reactions to acrylics and gels (methacrylate sensitisation) are the commonest nail-industry claim. We make sure your cover reflects the products and systems you actually use, because that's what an insurer looks at if a claim comes in.

Can I get cover as a mobile or home-based nail tech?

Yes. We place cover for mobile technicians who visit clients and for home-based studios — both need a policy set up for where and how you work, which a generic salon policy often isn't. Just tell us your setup and we'll match it.

Do I need product liability as well as treatment liability?

They work together. Treatment liability covers the service you perform; product liability covers harm caused by a product you use or sell. For nails — where the products themselves cause most reactions — you want both, and they're normally packaged together.

Do I need employers' liability if I rent out stations?

It depends on the arrangement. If station renters are genuinely self-employed they usually need their own liability cover, but the setup can blur who's the employer — which is where uninsured gaps appear. We'll look at how yours works and make sure it's covered correctly.

How much does nail technician insurance cost?

It depends on your setup, turnover, the services you offer and your claims history — a mobile sole tech pays far less than a staffed nail bar. We quote across the market, not one insurer, so you see a competitive price for your actual work. There's no fee for a quote.
