Eight dated commitments, signed by a director, after a decade in which most of the UK’s best-known professional indemnity specialists were bought.
In short
Apex Insurance Brokers, the Bristol professional indemnity specialist established in 2009, has published an Independence Charter: eight written commitments covering ownership, independence from insurers, a named broker for every client, comparable quotes, a free written second opinion, non-standard risks and claims. The firm says it is owned entirely by its directors, has declined approaches to buy it and is not for sale. Alongside the Charter it has published a sourced list of UK PI specialist brokers acquired since 2013 — by Willis, Ardonagh, Aston Lark and Howden, Markel, PSC Insurance and Aon — and the older specialists that remain independently owned.
Between 2013 and 2025 Prime Professions, Paragon, Caunce O’Hara, Brunel Professions, Hera Indemnity, The Professional Indemnity Company and Griffiths & Armour were acquired by larger brokers and consolidators. Apex’s published timeline lists each with its source and names the older specialists still independently owned — MFL Insurance Group in Manchester and PII Brokers in London — which is why the firm describes itself as one of the longest-established independently owned PI specialists in the UK rather than the longest.
