Insurance for spas and day spas

Cover built for spas and day spas — wet areas, heat, high-value fit-out and a broad treatment menu mean bigger, more complex risks than a single-room salon. From a boutique day spa to a large destination facility.

Apex is an independent Bristol broker, FCA-authorised (FRN 724952), with 30+ commercial insurer markets.

In short: a spa policy has to cover the treatment menu, the wet-area and Legionella risk that pools, saunas, steam rooms and hot tubs bring, a high-value fit-out, and business interruption — losing a pool or steam room can shut you for weeks. Employers' liability for a larger therapist team sits alongside it.

Why use Apex

We're an independent commercial broker in Bristol, established 2009, working across 30+ insurer markets including Lloyd's via wholesale. A spa needs cover that reflects its wet-area risk and its business-interruption exposure — not a beauty-salon policy scaled up. You deal with a named broker who reads your submission and places it properly. FCA-authorised (FRN 724952); no fee for a quote.

Spa insurance — common questions

Do I need Legionella cover for a hot tub, spa pool or steam room?

Any system that aerosolises water — spa pools, hot tubs, steam rooms, even showers — carries a Legionella duty under health-and-safety law. Insurers will expect a documented risk assessment and control regime, and the liability cover needs to respond to a water-quality claim. We'll make sure both are in place.

Why is business interruption so important for a spa?

Because a spa's income depends on facilities that can fail — a boiler, a pool pump, a steam generator. If one goes down, you can lose weeks of trading while it's repaired, and that lost income often exceeds the cost of the physical damage. Getting the indemnity period and sum right is one of the most important parts of a spa policy.

Are massage and body treatments covered?

Yes — massage, facials, body wraps and similar treatments sit under treatment liability, matched to your menu. We'll make sure anything more specialist (hydrotherapy, certain advanced treatments) is declared so there's no exclusion at claim time.

Do I need employers' liability for my therapists?

Yes — it's a legal requirement if you employ anyone, and spas carry a genuine manual-handling injury risk for massage and treatment staff. The standard limit is £10m.

How much does spa insurance cost?

It depends on your size, facilities, treatment menu, turnover and claims history — a boutique day spa is very different from a facility with pools and a large team. We quote across the market rather than one insurer, so you see a competitive price for your actual operation. There's no fee for a quote.
