Taunton has one of the most active construction pipelines of any town its size in the UK. The Firepool regeneration is delivering a new commercial and residential cluster adjacent to the station; the Taunton Garden Town masterplan delivers significant housing growth at Staplegrove, Comeytrowe and Monkton Heathfield; the Hinkley Point C supply chain brings substantial logistics, accommodation and tier-2 contractor work; and the Musgrove Park Hospital expansion programme supports a steady healthcare-construction workload. Apex Insurance Brokers works from Bristol, around 60–75 minutes from Taunton via the M5.
Firepool is the principal town-centre regeneration project. Already delivering the Coal Orchard, the new Somerset County Council headquarters and adjacent residential, the wider Firepool masterplan continues with hotel, office, residential and public realm phases. Contractor activity is continuous and multi-Tier — Pearce Construction, Galliford Try and several others have delivered phases, with Acorn Property Group and other developers active across the residential delivery.
Taunton Garden Town is the wider housing pipeline — Staplegrove, Comeytrowe, Monkton Heathfield and the further-east growth zones are master-planned for substantial residential delivery into the 2030s. Persimmon, Barratt David Wilson, Bellway, Bovis and Redrow are active. New primary schools, community facilities, retail and infrastructure form the wider Garden Town delivery alongside the housing.
Hinkley Point C is roughly 35 minutes north-west of Taunton, and Taunton is one of the principal towns from which HPC’s workforce commutes. The HPC supply chain reaches into Taunton through logistics, manufacturing, contractor accommodation arrangements and tier-2 subcontracting. Several Taunton-area accommodation providers, plant hire businesses and trades work directly on HPC or through its supply chain. Hinkley’s commissioning programme into the late 2020s and early 2030s continues to support contracting workload.
Musgrove Park Hospital has a multi-hundred-million-pound expansion programme — the “Future Musgrove” project — to replace ageing 1940s estate. Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is procuring through the New Hospital Programme. When this fully accelerates the contractor and subcontractor tail will be substantial.
The Blackbrook Business Park and the Junction 25 (Nexus 25) development support industrial and commercial fit-out work.
Tier 1 contractor activity is delivered through frameworks. Galliford Try, Kier, Wates and VINCI appear on Taunton schemes. Pearce Construction, Stepnell, Wallis Construction and BPM Building Services are among the mid-market contractors active locally.
For HPC supply-chain contractors specifically, vetting requirements, the specific PI considerations on nuclear-adjacent work and the careful response to client-side warranty requirements all need broker engagement.

Taunton is around 60–75 minutes from our Bristol office via the M5. We don’t have a Taunton office. What we offer is a broker that visits Taunton contractors regularly, knows the Garden Town and Firepool pipelines, the HPC supply-chain considerations and the healthcare-construction wording nuances.
We work with main contractors, civils specialists, HPC supply-chain businesses, healthcare-construction contractors, M&E specialists and SME trades. We can attend pre-tender contract reviews and post-incident site visits.
