Every solar job puts a crew on a roof, running live electrical connections, and more and more of them now hang a battery on the wall afterwards. What underwriters want to see

MCS certification, electrical qualifications (NICEIC or NAPIT), your working-height and roof-access methods, the battery types you fit and where they’re sited, and your hot-works approach. These shape both availability and price.

Do you cover battery storage (BESS)?

Yes, though it’s the part underwriters look at hardest — battery chemistry and siting drive the terms. Tell us what you install.

Are the panels covered while I’m fitting them?

Yes — contract works covers the materials you’re installing up to handover.

Roof damage to the customer’s property?

Covered under liability on the right policy. It’s a common gap on cheap cover, so it’s worth getting right.

Do I need to be MCS certified?

Not always for cover, but it helps terms and it’s expected for most domestic work.

I own a solar farm, not an install business — same policy?

No. Generation assets are a separate market; ask us and we’ll direct you to the right cover.
